School Time

Coat of Arms, Sons of Donn
Sons of Donn. “To fly, to touch the face of God”

Got up early so I could go to school
Floss my teeth so I won’t be a fool
Brought and apple, hope it makes her soft, cause
My teacher, she’s so tough

Kids can sometimes be so mean
Thought Sally liked me, but I should have seen
Brought some flowers, hope to make her soft, cause
Sally Rogers, she’s so tough

Math is harder than it looks
All those number sittin’ in those book
Hope it’s easy if I study enough, cause
Algebra, she’s so tough

Joey Sanders punched my eye
Hurt a lot, but I didn’t cry
Next time I’m hit, I hope I’m hit soft, cause
Getting beat up, that’s so tough

Two Forward

I wrote this to keep Smash (my drummer) busy.  He likes it, so that’s a good start.  It is meant to be the first in a series of “Prime Number” songs – songs written in time signatures with with prime number time signatures – 5/4, 7/8, 11/8, etc.  But I hate to make promises.

Oh, it it’s not really quite finished, but I think it holds together okay as it is.

You take two steps forward
One back again
I wish I could make this
Different, my friend

The best I can offer
My best advice
Is just to be thankful
It’s once back not twice

You try something different
It comes out the same
You gave all you had
But still lost the game

It’s hard to decipher
You don’t have a key
The secret is hidden
And don’t look at me

round and round and
round and round and
round and round it goes

Washed Me Clean – Cleaner

Jesus died and he saved my soul
Buried my sins in a great big hole
To tell the truth – he washed them all away
He’ll do the same if you ask him to
Wash those sins all away from you
And brother, it’s good to be clean

Now I’ve been bad and I’ve been good
Sometimes do the things I should
But nothing I can do can fix this ragged soul
It’s something of a mystery
When Jesus gave his life for you and me
Ours souls – he made them whole

Jesus washed my sins away
When on that cross He died that day
Then from the grave He rose again
He won the victory over sin

Now you ask me why, tell you “I don’t know
why sin get’s it’s teeth so deep in our soul”
Brother Paul wrote many years ago
He does the things that he don’t want to
And what he wants is what he just don’t do
But Jesus, he makes us whole

Jesus washed my sins away
When on that cross He died that day
Then from the grave He rose again
He won the victory over sin

Jesus died and he saved my soul
Buried my sins in a great big hole
To tell the truth – he washed them all away
He’ll do the same if you ask him to
Wash those sins all away from you
And brother, it’s good to be clean

Jesus washed my sins away
When on that cross He died that day
Then from the grave He rose again
He won the victory over sin

Jesus washed my sins away
When on that cross He died that day
Then from the grave He rose again
He won the victory over sin

Don’t Let Me Down

Inspired by a conversation about alternate guitar tunings.  I’m not sure i made the best use of the tuning, but I think the song came out pretty darn nice.  The guitar tuning is D-G-D-G-B-D, in case you are interested.

Light don’t fail me, light don’t fail me now
Just shine a little more for me somehow
The gloomy shadows grown
And I’m feeling so alone
Don’t let me down
Don’t let me down

Not so long ago I was still young
And sweeter songs were dancing from my tongue
But time it snuck away
With my joy’s from yesterday
Don’t let me down
Don’t let me down

instrumental

Friend don’t leave me, friend don’t leave me, no
The dark is waiting for me when you go
A black and moonless night
With no hope for sunlight
Don’t let me down
Don’t let me down

Beer and Whiskey

What?  I I haven’t got the solos added yet?  Whatever.

©2013 Stephen G Brown

I drank a beer and I chased it down with whiskey
How much better can a breakfast be?
Clears my mind, don’t get no
Cereal for me

I woke up fine, just that I was a little thirsty
Musta been that I hadn’t had enough last night
I don’t know what I did,
Musta did everything alright

I heard it said that it’s alway nightime somewhere
And I tell you that is good enough for me
It’s always too late, and I won’t wait
for my whiskey

Light up
{Harmonica}

Sometimes I stay out late, but the sun comes up so early
Try to get in bed before before I see her rise
But there’s gotta be another drink or three
Or four or five

I don’t like my friends, I don’t think they like me
No I don’t like my friends, and I don’t think they like me
But a couple of drinks and I dont think
Noone thinks of me

Burn it down
{Bass}

I drank a beer and I chased it down with whiskey
Breakfast is much better than it used to be
Clears my mind don’t, get no
Cereal for me
